Review: The Clean Dirt by May Lindstrom Skin

In honor of Therapeutic Thursday, last week I decided to do something I never do...take a bath. Now I realize this may not sound like such a big deal to most of you, I see so many Instagram pics of ladies with their thighs covered in bubbles soaking their bodies relaxing in a tub. Though the idea has seemed appealing to me as an adult I just have never taken the time for one, or I should say I've never taken the time for myself. So last week I drew the water, lit 3 of my favorite candles (Garden Bouquet by Bath and Body Works), set my Spotify radio to 'Yoga,' poured some lavender bath soap and turned off the lights. It was amazing, it was just what I needed, and it was all inspired by the product I'm about to review, The Clean Dirt by May Lindstrom Skin.

The more I've become conscious about what I eat and the types of harsh chemicals that are used in our everyday foods and products, I've also put the same amount of consideration into the toiletries I use. This product along with all of the products in May's line is all natural with no harsh chemicals or preservatives and this statement proves to be truly believable when you see that The Clean Dirt is actually bottled as a dry powder and not a liquid as one might expect. As described by her web site The Clean Dirt is...

"An energizing blend of cleansing clays, warming spices and healing salts lifts impurities while a surge of H20-activated Vitamin C encourages cellular rejuvenation and increased blood flow.
This stimulating treatment transforms and refines skin's appearance with a potent cocktail of exfoliants, leaving you velvety smooth and gorgeously radiant. "

As far as first impressions go May Lindstrom knows what she's doing because right out of the shipping box I was instantly impressed. Each product was individually wrapped with black tissue paper, a bow to match and a personalized letter! You feel the love right from the get go and knowing that she put this much effort into one shipment is inspiring. I also received a sample of "The Youth Dew" and one of her elegant business cards listing her contact info.

To begin my tranquil experience (before I hoped in the bath and after cleansing my face with Purity face wash) I poured a tiny mound of The Clean Dirt in my hand. The first thing I noticed was that it smelled amazing and also that all of the scents were familiar. It is comforting to me to be able to name a few of the ingredients off of the top of my head (ginger, turmeric) and also have them seem like they were mixed in a kitchen and not a laboratory

I then filled my other hand with water and slowly added drops until the powdery concoction began to bubble and activate the ingredients, releasing even more of the spicy aroma and allowing it to slowly turn into a frothy mouse for my face to enjoy. You will notice immediately that the product invokes a warming sensation on your skin. It's meant to promote blood flow and cell rejuvenation so it only makes sense that you can feel all this action going on while it's happening.

From here I just let it sit for a minute before I rinsed it off with warm water, exfoliating my skin as I washed it away. The first thing I noticed after rinsing my face was that my skin did not feel dry or striped, it actually left it feeling extremely soft and hydrated. If you've ever used an exfoliating product you know that this is not always the case. If I had to compare this product to something to give you an idea of the power it has, I would say it is a natural, more amazing and eco friendly version of Exfolikate by Kate Somerville. I am a user of the Exfolikate product and though I did like the results, I'm not a fan of the "caution" attached to it. You can't leave it on your skin for more than a couple of minutes because of the damage it can cause. They've even made a more gentle version of this product because of how harsh it can be with sensitive skin. The Clean Dirt comes with no such warning because your skin is not going to burn off if you use it, and to me this should be a number one priority when choosing an exfoliant. You also get much more bang for your buck with this one as it has a smaller price tag. There are 6.67 ounces of product which does not include water. This means every ounce is packed with usage, allowing you to control the intensity and amount without being wasteful.

After my skin was washed and dried the radiance immediately came through leaving me soft, smooth, hydrated and glowing.

Overall I would say I'm extremely impressed with The Clean Dirt and May Lindstrom Skin as a whole. This natural yet luxurious product delivered all that it promised while incorporating a fun and personal experience to its use. If you are looking for a natural way to better your complexion and exfoliate without exposing yourself to harsh chemicals and impersonal companies, I would recommend The Clean Dirt.

  1. I am glad you bought and love it!! It's my holy grail physical exfoliator (that also contains vitamin C to brighten!). It is an investment to buy but in the long run, it is so economical if you calculate it per ounce in comparison to other all natural & organic products.

  2. This sounds like a wonderful product! So many exfoliators on the market are overly drying and harsh on our skin. It's also really cute how they put a personal touch to your package!
